AUDIBLE LIGHT is a large-scale photoelectronic sound sculpture creating sound directly from light. Big disks with different hole patterns are turning gracefully over light-sensitive electronic circuits to produce continuously flowing soundscapes and illuminate the respective exhibition space with vivid light patterns. The calm and delicate interplay between sound and light resembles a living organism and creates a place of contemplation and tranquility. The main artistic impulse behind this work is my desire to make light, a basically inaudible natural phenomenon, audible and share this discovery with the audience.

This art project is inspired by the Variophone instrument, an analog optical synthesizer developed by Russian inventor Evgeny Sholpo in the 1930's in Leningrad.
